About the Parish President:
Parish President Louis Pomes is a St. Bernard Parish native, born in Toca, LA in 1963, and raised in Eastern St. Bernard Parish. Pomes had instilled in him at a very young age, a strong work ethic, a love and deep appreciation for nature in all forms, and an unwavering love and fierce pride for his hometown of St. Bernard Parish. Deeply rooted in the very unique cultural heritage and diverse fabric of this community, Louis Pomes has spent his entire life involved and engaged in the daily function of the community, in countless ways.
President Pomes has been a dedicated public servant since he was 18 years old. Beyond Parish Government, his professional experience and background extend to other entities and capacities in public service, private industry, and self-employed ventures. His extensive professional background includes working with 6 Parish Presidents and over 40 councilmen through various administrations of St. Bernard Parish Government over more than 4 decades. Additionally, he served as a deputy under Sheriff Jack Stephens in the 1980s, and has therefore been a fierce advocate of our police and fire departments, armed with first-hand knowledge and experience from his time there.
President Pomes has additionally been engaged in a successful cattle ranching operation, for much of his adult life, with large pastures of cows and other animals that he lovingly oversees and cares for each day. In addition to these impressive accomplishments and various professional successes, Louis Pomes is defined by an equally impressive commitment to volunteerism, community, and family. President Pomes has maintained an impeccable reputation as a pilar of our community, and a devoted family man. His humble nature, tireless work ethic, and generosity have earned the respect and admiration of people across our region, state, and country. His ability to collaborate with others, his pragmatic and steadfast commitment to the betterment of St. Bernard Parish and its citizens, combined with his good-natured, humble attitude, make him an ideal and natural leader who is respected, valued, and relied upon in equal measure. Louis is also a cherished member of the community, who’s never lost sight of the value of our beloved hometown, its abundant natural resources, and the tight-knit fabric that holds it all in place.
One of Louis Pomes’ deepest sources of pride, are the 12 beloved grandchildren who call him “Paw Paw,” and his large and loving family, including our treasured First Lady Cherie Chenier Carreras. He is invested and engaged in building a community that reflects the unity, support, purpose, and exceptional way of life he experienced growing up here in St. Bernard, and he has been active and intentional in accomplishing that outcome for us all.
